Combat!

This is one of my favorite TV series which I watched during my elementary days back in the 1970s. This was aired in the evening over GMA7 and almost everyone in my family enjoyed watching this TV series. During that time, people were still interested in stories about WW2 and that is what made this TV series very popular.

The show's popularity gave way to the production of merchandise connected with the show. Some of these are Sgt. Saunder's (played by Vic Morrow) helmet and machine gun. By the way, I can't help asking why St Saunders was wearing a Marine helmet with camouflage markings, The radio exchanges also became popular "Checkmate King 2, this is White Rook, over."

The show also had interesting episodes which you might want to watch again and again. These episodes did not just feature encounters between American and German troops. They also featured interesting attitudes of fighting soldiers and civilians during the war. In one episode which guested Charles Bronson as a demolition expert, the character towards the end of the episode preferred to go down with the art artifacts inside the cave which he was tasked to destroy. Another episode featured orphan children trying to sell an American soldier to both Americans and Germans for money. Of course, there were also comic moments especially in that episode wherein an American soldier was asked to pose as an American officer for the conduct of prisoner exchange.

I wonder if the new generation will appreciate the show if reruns of it are shown on TV or streaming services.
